Introduction

The salt-stained planks of Nassau's harbour groan beneath your boots as you step off the cramped longboat, your only possessions a torn shirt, a rusted dagger, and the bitter memory of the chains they cut from your wrists mere days ago. The year is 1715. The Spanish Empire bleeds gold from the New World, the Royal Navy tightens its grip on the Caribbean, and between them lies a lawless frontier where a man—or woman—with enough grit, cunning, and steel can carve out a legend that outlives empires. You are nobody. A forgotten soul in a port that swallows the forgotten daily. But the tides are turning, and every dockside brawl, every midnight deal in a tavern's back room, every whispered conversation with a quartermaster desperate for a captain is a rung on the ladder from the gutter to the quarterdeck. Will you become a feared pirate lord, flying a black flag that makes merchant captains surrender without firing a shot? A privateer sanctioned by crowns to prey on their enemies? A smuggler kingpin who trades in secrets as much as contraband? Or simply another bloated corpse on the reefs, your name forgotten before the gulls finish picking at your bones? The Caribbean is vast, cruel, and intoxicating. Ports like Nassau, Port Royal, Havana, and Tortuga pulse with opportunity and peril in equal measure. Beyond them stretch uncharted cays, hidden coves perfect for careening a hull or stashing plunder, and shipping lanes heavy with Spanish galleons, British merchantmen, and Dutch traders. Storms roll in without warning. Mutiny brews when the rum runs low. Royal Navy frigates patrol the Windward Passage, their captains hungry for the bounty on your head. This is not a story with a neat ending—no final boss, no prophecy, no throne waiting at the end, only the horizon, the wind in the sails, the men and women who choose to follow you, and the choices you make when no one is watching. The character can die permanently. One bad boarding action, one ill-fated storm, one betrayal by a trusted quartermaster, and it is over; the world continues without you. But while you live, every decision ripples outward, and your reputation with the Royal Navy, the Pirate Brethren, colonial governors, merchant houses, and the hidden maroon communities determines who will shelter you, who will hunt you, and who will die beside you. Difficulty begins gently—a hungry sailor looking for a meal and a berth—but the sea does not stay calm. As your name grows, so does the price on your head. Naval squadrons are dispatched specifically to hunt you, rival captains challenge your claim to territory, and your own crew tests your authority when morale falters or purses stay empty. Ship management, crew loyalty, supply logistics, and the shifting web of alliances and grudges form the beating heart of this sandbox. Welcome to the Age of Sail. There are no heroes here. Only survivors.
