Licensing

Licensing

Your Tale is built on creative freedom: every hero's journey belongs to the person who wrote it. This page explains what that means in practice for the stories you make and the platform you make them on.

Your stories stay yours

The narratives you generate are yours. We claim no ownership of the adventures you play, the heroes you build or the adventures you publish. Your creative output is your intellectual property, shaped by your choices and your imagination, and you are free to share it, adapt it or keep it entirely to yourself.

The platform licence

To display and run your work, Your Tale needs a limited licence to store it, transmit it to the model that generates the next scene, and show it to the people you choose. That licence exists only for operating the service. It does not transfer ownership, and it ends when you delete the content or close your account.

Models and upstream terms

Narration, state tracking and moderation run through a chain of models served by OpenRouter, and are subject to each model provider's terms. When you connect your own key, your account's agreement with OpenRouter and its providers applies to those requests. The platform's own terms cover everything around the model call: accounts, storage, publishing and conduct.

Publishing an adventure

Publishing an adventure grants Your Tale a non-exclusive licence to display and run it for other players. You can turn it private again at any time, and that does not affect sagas already in progress. You keep the right to remove the adventure entirely, along with its cover and wallpaper.

Questions about rights

If you are unsure whether a setting, character or image is yours to publish, ask before you make it public. We would rather answer a question than take down a world. Rights requests and licensing questions can be sent through the contact page.

Whether you publish or preserve, your creative output stays in your control.
