Introduction

The year is 476 AUC, but this is not the history you know. The Roman Eagle has expanded its reach, but it has not conquered the ancient spirits of the lands it claims. In this world, the Great Library of Alexandria holds scrolls of actual sorcery, the Pyramids hum with celestial energy, and the druids of Britannia still call upon the deep, dark power of the forests. The Mediterranean is a boiling pot of cultures, where Roman legionnaires march alongside Greek hoplites, Egyptian sun-priests, and Celtic berserkers. You are a freelancer of the ancient world—a 'Speculator'—hired by the Imperial Senate to investigate a series of unnatural occurrences. A plague of shadows is sweeping across the provinces, turning men into mindless husks and reviving the myths of old. From the sun-drenched markets of Rome to the mist-shrouded hills of Gaul, you must navigate a web of political intrigue and divine intervention. The gods are not silent observers in this age. Jupiter’s thunder, Isis's healing, Athena’s wisdom, and Morrigan’s fury are palpable forces that can be invoked—for a price. As you travel this sprawling open world, you'll encounter legendary creatures like the Nemean Lion, the Sphinx, and the Kelpie. Will you serve the Empire, or will you find your own path among the myths of the four great cultures?
