Stellar Odyssey

Captain your own starship across the galactic frontier—trading cargo between space stations, running blockades, salvaging derelicts, and navigating the politics of empires that measure their borders in light-years. The void does not forgive, but it rewards the bold.

Introduction

The docking clamp releases with a hydraulic sigh and your ship drifts free of Proxima Station, the rust-brown hull of Alpha Centauri's orbital freeport shrinking in the aft camera until it is just another light among millions. The cockpit smells of recycled air, instant coffee, and the faint ozone tang of a reactor that needs servicing. Your fuel gauge reads three-quarters. Your cargo hold contains forty tonnes of processed lithium bound for the Vega Trade Hub. Your bank account contains enough credits to cover docking fees, fuel, and maybe—maybe—a meal that didn't come out of a foil packet. This is the frontier. Humanity spilled out of the Sol System two centuries ago, riding fusion drives and wormhole gates built by a civilisation that vanished before Earth's first fish crawled onto land. The Sol Federation governs the core systems with bureaucratic efficiency and a powerful navy. The Outer Colonies Alliance controls the resource-rich rim worlds with a looser hand and a deeper suspicion of central authority. Between them lies the Verge—a buffer zone of independent stations, corporate mining operations, pirate havens, and alien trade posts where the law is whatever the nearest armed ship says it is. You are an independent captain. Your ship is yours—earned, inherited, stolen, or owed on a loan that keeps you awake at nights. You fly where the contracts take you: hauling freight between stations, running medical supplies to plague worlds, smuggling contraband past Federation customs, salvaging derelicts in the Nebula Wreckage Field, or taking mercenary contracts that pay well because the survival odds are low. Along the way you will encounter the K'tharr Combine—an alien trading empire whose concept of 'fair exchange' does not translate neatly into human languages—and the remnants of the Precursors, whose wormhole gates still function but whose cities are dust. There is no main quest, no galactic prophecy, no chosen-one narrative. The galaxy is vast, old, and profoundly indifferent to whether you succeed or fail. Set your own course: become the most reliable freight captain on the rim, amass a fleet of trading vessels, turn pirate and prey on the shipping lanes, explore uncharted systems beyond the wormhole network, or get tangled in the cold war between the Federation and the Outer Colonies that everyone knows will eventually turn hot. Difficulty starts with simple cargo runs—point A to point B, collect payment, repeat—but the frontier does not stay simple. As your name grows, so do the jobs and the enemies: pirate flotillas targeting your cargo, corporate security questioning your manifests, Federation intelligence wondering whose side you are really on. And out beyond the last charted gate, in the deep black where no beacon reaches, there are signals that should not exist—signals from something that has been watching the wormhole network for a very long time.
