Introduction
Five hundred years ago, the sky burned and the oceans boiled. Humanity’s survivors fled deep into the crust, discovering a network of massive, radiant geodes that could support life. Today, 'The Haven' is the largest of these underground cities, a bustling metropolis built into the walls of a sapphire-lined cavern. For generations, the geode's natural luminescence and the ancient geothermal generators have provided everything. But the light is dimming.
You are a 'Surface-Runner,' one of the few trained to use the ancient elevator-shafts that lead to the Forbidden World. The Haven’s main power core is dying, and the city’s air filters are starting to choke on the toxic atmosphere from above. To save your people, you must lead a small team to the surface—to the ruins of the World Above—to scavenge a high-capacity fusion cell from an old military bunker.
In the darkness of the geode, you are a hero. On the surface, you are prey. Will you return with the power to keep the Haven alive, or will you be lost to the radioactive winds of the ancient world?
The journey up the Central Shaft is a four-hour climb through a graveyard of pre-collapse technology. You'll hear the groaning of metal and the skittering of 'Shaft-Creepers'—mutated descendants of the world above that have found their way into the vents. On the surface, the sun is a hateful, blinding eye, and the ruins of the 'Old Cities' are guarded by automated defense systems that still think the war is ongoing. Every breath from your tank is a countdown. Every step is a gamble.
