Whispering Woods: Heart of Corruption

Whispering Woods: Heart of Corruption

Enter a dark enchanted forest where ancient fey corruption has twisted every living thing into a weapon. The trees move when you look away, the creatures wear shapes that were once familiar, and at the forest's centre beats a malevolent heart that has been feeding on the land for centuries. You must trace the corruption to its source and destroy it—or be consumed trying.

Introduction

The village of Thornhaven has buried six people this season—none of them dead by any cause the healer can name. They simply walked into the Whispering Woods and did not return. When the search parties followed, they found the missing villagers standing among the trees, bark growing over their skin, roots threading through their boots into the soil, eyes open and weeping sap. They were still breathing. The Whispering Woods were not always like this. The oldest villagers remember when the forest was merely dark and deep—dangerous in the way all wild places are dangerous, but not hostile. That changed forty years ago, when the last of the Thorn Court fell and something ancient and starving woke beneath the forest floor. Now the corruption spreads a little further each season. The Briarwall—a living barrier of thorned vines that marks the boundary of the tainted interior—has crept half a mile closer to Thornhaven since last winter. The animals that emerge from beyond it are wrong: deer with too many eyes, wolves whose howls sound like laughter, birds that fly in perfect geometric patterns and never land. You have come to Thornhaven because the corruption cannot be ignored any longer. The druids who once maintained the forest's balance are gone—dead, absorbed, or driven mad. The wood-elves who built their homes in the canopy vanished overnight two decades ago. Whatever is growing at the heart of the forest has been feeding for forty years, and it is nearly strong enough to push past the Briarwall for good. Your mission is simple to state and possibly fatal to execute: enter the Whispering Woods, navigate the shifting paths and corrupted terrain, survive the twisted creatures that serve the forest's will, and reach the Heart Chamber beneath the oldest tree. There, you must destroy the Heart of Corruption—a pulsing mass of dark fey energy that has been growing since the Thorn Queen's death—before it devours Thornhaven and everything beyond it. The forest will resist you at every step. The trees watch. The paths move. The whispers know your name.
